Hope United Methodist Church is involved in three meal site ministries in the community several times during the course of the year.
We did take turns at the Hope Moravian Church located at 202 N. Main Street in Hope. The Moravians started this ministry on Monday nights at 5 pm. Anyone can come to this for a free meal. Several organizations in Hope have followed the lead of the Moravians by joining in and taking a Monday where they come into the church, prepare and serve the meal to any visitor.
When we at the Hope UMC participate in this ministry we prepare (Breakfast Supper). Egg casserole, hash browns, bananas and homemade cinnamon rolls.
We have also started our own Meal-Site Ministry on Thursday nights. We start serving as a drive thru at 5 pm. The meal is open to anyone that desires a meal. No strings attached or payment required. Donations are graciously accepted.
We have several families who have started splitting up the month to prepare a meal. Those individuals start on Thursday afternoons to setting up the meal, then others join in around 4 pm to setup and fix the carryout meals.
How can you help? Well if you want to help serve, arrive at the church around 4 pm. If you want to prepare a portion of the meal, or plan the whole meal on a given week, Contact Marsha Tobias by phone 812-374-8544 or thru the church office 812-546-1149.
If you want to make a donation to help defray the cost of serving a meal, Mail your donation to the church address 432 Washington Street Hope IN 47246 or you can use our online donation on our home page, then designate it as to the meal-site.
We also do the same for the Columbus branch of the Salvation Army located 2525 Illinois St in Columbus Indiana. To feed the homeless people in Columbus. Our next time will be November 7th. We will meet at the church at 3 pm and leave the church to go to the Salvation Army around 3:30 to arrive at 4 pm to prepare to start serving at 5- 6.
